Sir Ray Tindle, Chairman of Tindle Newspapers, the long term title sponsors of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR), will celebrate the 45th anniversary of his first Run in the unique Veteran car he bought back in 1964.  The 1904 Speedwell Dogcart, registration number DU18, is believed to be the only remaining example of the type in the world. Tindle Newspapers have also renewed their commitment to support the world's longest running motoring event.  

While the 2009 Run will mark Sir Ray's 46th LBVCR, his interest in the London to Brighton started over 70 years ago as a young boy watching the cars pass by his home.    Tindle Newspapers support of the London to Brighton started in 1993 when the then organisers of the Run sent out an appeal to the participants: the ‘Brighton Run' did not have a sponsor, and was in danger of suffering as a result. Sir Ray responded with sponsorship in that and each of the subsequent 16 years.

Sir Ray Tindle owns two Brighton eligible cars. As well as the Speedwell he also owns a 1903 George Richard, which he successfully bid for at the Bonhams LBVCR auction in 2007.   In 2008 the George Richard was driven on the event by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent, who also reached the finish line on Madeira Drive in good time.
