Three days of events on the 2008 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run starts with Bonhams' 5th annual auction of Veteran Motor Cars and Automobilia at 101 New Bond Street on Friday 31 October and culminates with the 112th anniversary London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday 2 November.  The 2008 auction features 264 lots including 15 LBVCR eligible cars; seven of which are being sold with entries for Sunday's Run.

The oldest car for sale is an 1896 Léon Bollée Tandem Two-seater (lot number 303).  As the name implies the driver and passenger sit one behind the other on this three-wheeled vehicle, with the passenger in front, making it one of the most exciting ways of seeing the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

The most valuable veteran car in the sale is a 1902 Clement Twin-Cylinder 9hp Four-Seater (lot 301) and is being sold with a guide price of £130,000 and £160,000 for the fully restored car.

The auction of related automobilia precedes the veteran car sale and the 249 lots feature some extremely rare and unusual items from the dawn of motoring.  The first group is literature of the period and ranges from items such as a 1903 Crestmobile Sales Brochure (lot 26) and bound copies of Autocar Magazine from November 1905 to April 1907 (lot 33).  The Automobilia Art section features period photographs and paintings such as the various mounted prints depicting pre World War I Motor Racing (lot 90).

The Spares and Accessories usually attract a lot of attention from owners of veteran cars. The section features items such as a pair of 1895 Candle Coach Lamps (lot 158), an Edwardian Travelling Foot Warmer (lot 146) and a 1905 Longines Grand Prix pocket watch (lot 175).

The Badges and Mascots section features ten lots including a Vulcan Cars radiator mascot (lot 195) and a Royal Scottish Automobile Club car badge (lot 192).  The final section is for Miscellaneous and Fine Automobilia.  Items such as motoring coats, gauntlets and goggles are featured in this section as well as unusual items like the 1960s London to Brighton Veteran Car Game in its original box and stamped approved by The Royal Automobile Club.

The auction of Automobila starts at 1pm on Friday 31 October, the veteran car sale due to begin at 4pm.
