13-Oct-2008 : CHILDREN IN NEED LBVCR ENDURANCE
Radio 2 Sally Traffic in Children in Need LBVCR Endurance On Sunday 2 November Radio 2 Traffic Presenter Sally Boazman will accompany last year's Terry Wogan BBC Children in Need Petrolheads auction bid holders in a 1904 Renault on the 2008 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR). Sally Traffic is used to reporting on the UK's slow moving traffic but how will she get on driving at an average speed of 20mph from London to Brighton in a car built over 100 years ago? As well as taking part in the world's longest running motoring event, the auction winners have been given a day at Land Rover's Design Centre, which included some expert off road tuition, and a pillion ride on the back of a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R at Silverstone as the guests of the MSS Discovery Racing Team at the recent British Superbike event at the circuit. The pace for the third part of the prize will be more sedate, stepping back in time to ride in a 104-year-old Renault Swing-seat tonneau from the Ward Collection. They will be joined in Hyde Park by Sally Traffic for the early morning start. They will be chauffeur driven, leaving Hyde Park at 8:10am and travelling through London and Croydon before stopping at The George Hotel in Crawley for refreshments. The journey then continues to Madeira Drive in Brighton, in front of the thousands of spectators who line the 60-mile route every year, where they will join participants on the other 549 pre 1905 vehicles. There they can enjoy the finish line hospitality and get a closer look at some of the other unique vehicles taking part in the event before being whisked back to London. "I'm unbelievably excited to be part of the London To Brighton Run this year,” said Sally Traffic. “It's something I've always wanted to do ever since I saw the film Genevieve with my dad years ago. I've got my extra thick underwear ready, and a very large hat. Can't wait for the day!" The auction bid helped Radio 2 raise £2,514,579 towards the 2007 BBC Children in Need grand total of over £19 million on the night and total donations for the year now total a record £37 million. Radio 2 is hoping to raise this total even higher this year, with Terry Wogan's 'Auction Of Things That Money Can't Buy' taking place over four days from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th November and the big television event being broadcast on Friday 14 November, two weeks after the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
