13-Sep-2005 : ENTRIES UP AGAIN FOR 2ND YEAR RUNNING AS NEARLY 500 PRE 1905 MOTOR VEHICLES PREPARE FOR THIS YEAR'S LONDON TO BRIGHTON.
NEWS RELEASE Entries up again for 2nd year running as nearly 500 pre 1905 motor vehicles prepare for this year's London to Brighton. Tuesday 13th September 2005 - Entries for the 2005 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR) closed today with a further increase in numbers for the 2nd year running despite the fact that the motor cars of the pre 1905 eligibility period get older each year! Entries are just shy of the 500 mark with an 1892 Peugeot as the earliest car starting first followed by 37 cars of pre 1900 and the balance of 1900 to 1904 vehicles forming the total line-up of 478 cars covering over 130 different makes. A far cry from the 33 car line-up that started the first London to Brighton Run in 1896 which celebrated the passing into law of the raising of the speed limit from 4mph to 14mph and abolishing the requirement for each motor vehicle to be preceded by a man on foot carrying a red flag! 79 entries from outside the UK including Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Australia, Argentina and across Europe join the many entries from around the UK to make up the Startline that will set off from Hyde Park on Sunday 6th November from 7.15am for the 72nd running of the world's longest running motoring event. The World famous Genevieve (1904 Darracq) from The Louwman Collection in Holland starts in 439th position and will be driven by the owner's daughter, Quirina Louwman. Also, amongst this year's entry list are 37 first time entrants including two 17 year olds hoping to pass their test in time for the early November event! The full entry list can be down-loaded from the events official website at www.LBVCR.com or requested from the organisers as a PDF file by e-mail to info@motion-works.co.uk To find out more about the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run please visit the above website where full event details can be found including images and details of all entries for this year's Run plus a short-movie clip of last year's event.
