30-Sep-2008 : L2B CAR ON BBC ANTIQUES ROADSHOW

A car that will be taking part in the 2008 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR) was featured on the BBC Antiques Roadshow programme on Sunday 28 September.  The 1904 Siddeley Tonneau, which is owned by Mrs. Wendy Baxendale, formed part of a display of cars from the Armstrong Siddeley Owners Club.

Mrs. Baxendale has owned the 1904 Siddeley since 1994 and the car, which is known as the ‘Green Goddess', has completed the Run the last four years.  The two cylinder, twelve horsepower vehicle has a top speed of 30mph and cruises at a sedate 20mph, which is perfect for the London to Brighton as this is the speed participants must average during the event.

Antiques Roadshow presenter Hilary Kay, who has participated on the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run in the past, said, “There has been a real surge in the market for Veteran Cars, which has happened really in the last two or three years because the London to Brighton Run has become a much bigger event and as a result all of these early cars have gone up in value.  This is something that takes me back to my past because I used to do the Veteran Car Run in my 1902 Panhard-Levassor."

The Siddeley Tonneau will be driven by Mr. Michael Dorley and he will set off from Hyde Park on Sunday 2 November at 08:08am, 70 minutes after the first of the 550 pre-1905 vehicles that are participating in the 2008 LBVCR.

The Antiques Roadshow from Ascot can be seen again online using the BBC iPlayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00drmr2/ and will be available to view for seven days.  The three minute feature on the Armstrong Siddeley Club is forty two minutes into the hour long programme.
