10-Sep-2008 : MOTION WORKS SIGNS NEW FIVE YEAR LONDON TO BRIGHTON CONTRACT

Silverstone based company Motion Works UK Limited has signed a new five year contract with The Royal Automobile Club to promote and organise the Club's annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR), at 112 years old the world's longest running motoring event.

Motion Works took over the running of the LBVCR in 2004 at a time when entry numbers for the annual celebration of Turn-of-the-Century motoring were in decline.  The company turned the LBVCR into three day festival, introducing an LBVCR auction with Bonhams and an International Concours in the heart of London in Regent Street.

With new marketing material and campaign, entry numbers are now in excess of 500 pre 1905 veteran cars, with over 100 international entries, and the event now regularly attracts an estimated 500,000 spectators during the 3-day event.

“We are extremely pleased that The Royal Automobile Club has extended our contract for another five years, which allows us to build on the work of the last five,” said Motion Works Managing Director Roger Etcell.  “The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is a wonderful event that is part of the fabric of this country.  What we have achieved is to bring the event into the 21st Century while retaining the traditional values that are so important. Since 2004 the number of entries has steadily been increasing and we have just announced that the entry for the 2008 event has reached the maximum of 550, the largest entry the centenary in 1996, four months before the event, which adequately demonstrates the increasing popularity of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. It is a case of a steady course for the next five year, continuing to improve the appeal of the LBVCR to participants and spectators alike so everyone can enjoy one of the world's great motoring spectacles.”

The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is held over three days, with the LBVCR Auction with Bonhams at their New Bond Street salerooms on Friday 31 October, the LBVCR International Concours in Regent Street on Saturday 1 November and the actual Run on Sunday 2 November, with the first car leaving Hyde Park at 6:58am (sunrise).  An estimated 500,000 spectators attended the LBVCR last year, making it the UK's largest free-to-view motoring event. The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is organised and promoted by Motion Works UK Limited on behalf of The Royal Automobile Club, an agreement that started from early 2004.  A new five year agreement has just been concluded with Motion Works continuing to organise and promote the event from 2009.
