At 7:01am on Sunday 4 November the 74th staging of the world's longest running motoring event, the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR), will start, with 528 pre 1905 vehicles attempting to complete the 60-mile journey from London's Hyde Park to Madeira Drive in Brighton. In addition to the Run, which this year celebrates the 111th Anniversary of the original 1896 event; on Saturday 3 November London's Regent Street will host the International LBVCR Concours.
Last year the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run event attracted in excess of 500,000 spectators to London's Regent Street and along the 60-mile route from London to Brighton, with the official coffee stop in Crawley High Street, outside the George Hotel as featured on the original 1896 Run. The entire event is completely free of charge to spectators, making it one of the largest free to view events in the UK.
The 528 entries, all built between 1895 and 1904 and collectively worth in excess of £50million, include three electric vehicles built between 1900 and 1903, nineteen steam vehicles and 102 International entries from as far away as Australia, United States of America, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and China.
“The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run attracts entries from all over the world to participate in this very British event,” said Event Director Roger Etcell. “One of the attractions is that it is completely free for people to come along and see these extremely rare vehicles up close, talk to owners, many of whom get into the spirit of the event by dressing in period costume, and experience motoring as it was at the turn of the 20th Century. In addition to the Run itself, which traditionally takes place on the first Sunday in November; the International LBVCR Concours in London's Regent Street has become firmly fixed on the calendar, which this year is taking place on Saturday 3 November. The Concours gives people the perfect opportunity to get close to the cars and participate in some early Christmas shopping.”
Full details of the 2007 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run can be found on the event website at www.lbvcr.com and includes the latest entry list, a downloadable route map and links to tourist information sites.
