11-May-2010 : RECORDS BROKEN IN LBVCR!
The demand for entry in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR) has reached an all time high as the 2010 event sets a new record by reaching the maximum number of 550 pre 1905 veteran cars six months before the event on Sunday 7 November, with a reserve list growing daily. The 2010 entry also includes 135 (25%) overseas entries, which is another record for the event. In addition, sponsorship, which is important for the ongoing development of this FREE-TO-VIEW annual event, has also exceeded expectations and previous levels with Bonhams recently increasing their support alongside Tindle Newspapers and three new brands joining the world’s longest running motoring event. In total, eleven major companies contribute a substantial budget in support of this important annual motoring celebration. With values ranging from c.£25,000 to in excess of £1million for each of the pre 1905 veteran cars, many of which are completely unique and all have an interesting story to tell, the 550 strong entry grid is estimated to be worth in excess of £60million. These fine examples of early pioneering motoring can be viewed for free by the general public this November either in London’s Regent Street on Saturday 6 November or along the 60-mile route from Hyde Park to Madeira Drive in Brighton on Sunday 7 November. “Since the re-launch of 2004 the event has grown in character and numbers and from 2007 the LBVCR has consistently reached the maximum 550 entries, but never this early in the year,” said Roger Etcell, LBVCR Event Director. “We had hoped for a strong entry in 2010 but to hit the 550 maximum with six months to go is great news. It is also very gratifying for everyone involved in the annual LBVCR and is a great indication of the high regard the event is held, not just here in the UK, but, as shown by the record 135 international entries, across the world. With 30 cars and 36 new drivers taking part for the first time it is also encouraging to see new participants joining this motoring celebration. With new drivers reducing the average age it is obvious that a LBVCR eligible veteran vehicle has become a worthy asset investment.” The 550 entries can be found with image on the official event website here
