24-May-2006 : SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT GIVES WORLD

London to Brighton Veteran Car Run Participants Get Full RAC Recovery Service and signage along the route

The 2006 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR), the world's longest running motoring event, is to receive the support of RAC.  The leading motoring organisation will supply a comprehensive breakdown and recovery service along the 60-mile route for all 500 participants, whose cars range from 102 to 114 years of age.

The annual LBVCR, which is celebrating the 110th anniversary of the original run in 1896, will take place on November 5th this year from Hyde Park in London. At sunrise the 500 pre-1905 Veteran Cars will travel the 60-mile route south to the finish line at Madeira Drive in Brighton. In demonstration of the high quality of preparation for the event traditionally just 10% of the starters fail to make it to Brighton's seafront, an amazing testimony to 100 year old technology!

The RAC will, as part of the LBVCR partnership, provide over 30 vans and low-loader recovery vehicles as a free service for all participants of this year's event.

The 2006 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run will also benefit from an agreement with Retford based TMS Limited, who will provide over 200 temporary RAC directional signs along the 60-mile route to Brighton.  TMS Limited, which has established an enviable reputation over 20 years in the business of traffic management, recently secured the contract to supply all temporary RAC signage to events throughout the UK on behalf of RAC.

The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is proudly owned by The Royal Automobile Club. In 1999 The Royal Automobile Club sold the RAC Motoring Services to Lex Services plc and was subsequently renamed RAC plc.  Today RAC is owned by Aviva and is completely separate to The Royal Automobile Club.

On behalf of the RAC Tanya du Rose said; We are delighted to be working with LBVCR, which further demonstrates RAC's commitment to the world of motoring.   We have for many years provided the recovery service to the Veteran Cars but now consider it appropriate that our involvement is increased.

John Birdsall, MD of TMS Limited said: We are pleased to be involved in this prestigious event and will be providing all of the temporary signage along the London to Brighton route in November.  We are convinced that by aligning ourselves with events such as the LBVCR, we can raise the profile of the important work we do on behalf of RAC.

George Kennedy, Chairman of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run Steering Group in welcoming this new association stated; We are extremely pleased to receive this additional support from RAC and TMS in the 110th anniversary year of this very important motoring event.  RAC's recovery service is one very much appreciated by the drivers and their passengers - the patrols are as passionate in getting the veteran cars safely to Brighton as their owners.  The signage agreement with TMS is also an invaluable service that is provided to the participants and spectators along the entire route and we are pleased to have them on board for this important year.

The 2006 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run will feature an auction at Bonham's on Friday 3rd November, an International Concours in the grand setting of London's Regent Street on Saturday 4th November and on Sunday 5th November the first of the 500 cars will start the Run at sunrise (7:07am) from Hyde Park.
